Introduction and History

Polonnaruwa, located in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Sri Lankan civilization. Serving as the second capital of Sri Lanka after the destruction of Anuradhapura in 993 AD, Polonnaruwa thrived under the reign of King Parakramabahu I in the 12th century.
